The VENTY arrived in late 2023 as Storz & Bickel's answer to a question nobody asked aloud: what happens when you remove every thermal and airflow constraint from a portable vaporiser? The answer is a device that heats up in 20 seconds, pushes 20 litres of air per minute through the chamber, and runs a 130-watt heater off two removable 18650 batteries.
It is the most technically ambitious portable S&B have ever built. For medical cannabis patients, the question is whether that ambition translates into a better experience — or just a louder spec sheet.
What is the VENTY?
The VENTY is a portable dry-herb vaporiser with a newly developed mini-heater that combines convection and conduction. It is the first portable vaporiser with adjustable airflow, controlled by a physical wheel on the side that mechanically opens and closes the air intake.
The name comes from the ventilation concept — this device moves more air than any portable S&B have made. The flowmeter inside dynamically adjusts the heater output based on how hard you draw, so temperature holds steady regardless of draw speed. In practice, this means the VENTY is almost impossible to overpower: draw as hard as you like, and the vapour stays dense and consistent.
It sits between the Mighty+ and the Volcano Hybrid in S&B's lineup — more powerful than the Mighty+, more portable than the Volcano. At £370–400, it is also priced between them.
Why it matters for medical cannabis patients
Heat-up time. Twenty seconds to 180°C. For a patient who needs rapid relief — a pain flare, a panic attack, sudden nausea — the difference between 20 seconds and 60 seconds is meaningful. The VENTY is ready by the time you have loaded a capsule.
Adjustable airflow. The airflow wheel has three settings: low (nearly closed), medium, and high (fully open, 20 litres/minute). For a patient with reduced lung capacity, the low setting offers gentle, easy draws. For a patient who wants dense, fast extraction, the high setting delivers. No other portable gives you this choice.
No technique required. Like the Mighty+, the VENTY's hybrid heating and active flowmeter compensate for draw speed. You cannot draw too fast and cool the heater; you cannot draw too slow and scorch the herb. Removable batteries. The VENTY uses two standard 18650 lithium-ion cells. They are user-replaceable — a first for a Storz & Bickel portable. The VENTY uses the same dosing capsule system as the Mighty+ and Crafty+, so capsules are interchangeable across all three portables. The Bluetooth app is optional — the device works fully standalone via the buttons and LCD display.
Airflow: the feature that matters
Most vaporiser reviews treat airflow as an afterthought. For medical patients, it is not. Draw resistance — how hard you need to pull to get vapour — directly affects usability for anyone with respiratory conditions, muscle weakness, or simply a preference for a gentler draw.
The VENTY's three-position airflow wheel is a physical control, not a software setting. It mechanically opens and closes the air intake. Low setting: gentle, restricted, suitable for slow sipping and patients who want minimal lung effort. Medium: balanced, comparable to a Mighty+. High: wide open at 20 litres per minute — you can breathe through this device almost like normal breathing.
The flowmeter inside monitors draw speed and adjusts heater output to compensate. If you pull harder, the device pushes more power to maintain temperature. If you pull gently, it backs off. This is the technology that makes the airflow adjustment work — without it, opening the intake would just cool the heater.
What it does well
Speed. Twenty seconds from cold to 180°C. Nothing else in the S&B lineup comes close. It changes how you use the device — you do not plan sessions around a minute of warm-up. You pick it up, turn it on, and it is ready.
Power. The 130-watt heater is overkill in the best way. It maintains temperature through the hardest draws without dropping a degree. If you have ever pulled too hard on a portable and felt the vapour thin out as the heater struggled to recover, the VENTY eliminates that experience entirely.
Airflow control. Genuinely useful, not a gimmick. The ability to switch between a gentle, restricted draw and a wide-open lung pull based on how you are feeling that day — or even that session — is unique. No other portable offers it.
ECO charging mode. A Bluetooth app feature that limits charge to ~80% to extend battery lifespan. For a device with user-replaceable batteries, this is less critical than it would be on a sealed unit, but it is still thoughtful.
Vapour quality. Dense, cool, consistent. The cooling unit is larger than the Mighty+'s and does a better job of taming the hotter vapour that the more powerful heater produces.
What it does not do well
Size. At 16cm tall and 254g, the VENTY is taller and heavier than the Mighty+. It is the largest portable in S&B's lineup and the least pocketable. It fits in a jacket, not a trouser pocket. If the Mighty+ is already too large for your needs, the VENTY is worse.
Battery life. Ten sessions per charge is adequate but not generous, especially given the device's power draw. The removable batteries mitigate this — carry spares and a charger — but out of the box, you will charge daily.
Price. £370–400 puts the VENTY £100 above the Mighty+. For that premium, you get 20-second heat-up and adjustable airflow. Whether those features are worth £100 depends on how much you value speed and draw control.
The app exists. Some users will appreciate the Bluetooth functionality — remote temperature control, ECO mode, firmware updates. Others will install it once, set their preferences, and never open it again. You do not need the app to use the device, and that is a good thing.
VENTY vs. Mighty+: which should you buy?
This is the question most S&B buyers face. £300 for the Mighty+, £380 for the VENTY. Here is the honest breakdown:
Buy the VENTY if: you want the fastest heat-up available, you value adjustable airflow, you want removable batteries, or you draw hard enough to overpower lesser heaters.
Buy the Mighty+ if: you want proven reliability over novelty, you prefer the slightly smaller and lighter body, or the £80–100 saving matters more than the VENTY's extra features.
Vapour quality is comparable. Both use hybrid convection-conduction. Both produce excellent vapour. The VENTY's is slightly cooler and slightly denser, but the difference is incremental, not transformational. The VENTY's real advantages are speed and airflow control — not better vapour.
Who it is for
The VENTY is for the patient who wants the most capable portable S&B make and is willing to pay for it. It is the right choice if you value speed — 20 seconds versus 60 seconds is a real quality-of-life improvement for frequent dosing. It is also the right choice if you have specific draw resistance preferences or reduced lung capacity, because the adjustable airflow gives you control that no other portable offers.
It is not for the patient who needs pocketability, the patient who is satisfied with their Mighty+, or the patient who balks at spending nearly £400 on a vaporiser.
Verdict
The VENTY is Storz & Bickel showing off — and the result is the most capable portable vaporiser they have ever made. Twenty-second heat-up, adjustable airflow, and a heater that refuses to be overpowered. It is expensive and it is large, but it delivers on every technical promise.
