The Mighty+ is not the newest vaporiser on the market. It is not the fastest, the smallest, or the cheapest. What it is — and has been since the original Mighty launched in 2014 — is the device most UK clinics will name if you ask them what you should be using.
That matters more than spec sheets. When you are spending £150–300 a month on prescribed flower, the vaporiser delivering it needs to be consistent. The Mighty+ is consistent. Here is what that actually means in practice, and whether it is the right device for you.
What is the Mighty+?
The Mighty+ is a portable dry-herb vaporiser manufactured by Storz & Bickel in Germany. It is the successor to the original Mighty, which was the first portable vaporiser to receive formal medical device certification — the same certification pathway used for inhalers and nebulisers.
The "plus" upgrade brought three meaningful changes: USB-C charging (replacing the old barrel charger), faster heat-up time (roughly 60 seconds versus 90 on the original), and a ceramic-coated filling chamber that is more resistant to wear.
The core heating system — a patented hybrid of convection and conduction — remains unchanged. Hot air passes through the herb whilst the chamber walls provide supplementary conductive heat, producing dense vapour from the first draw.
Why it matters for medical cannabis patients
Three things set the Mighty+ apart for prescribed patients specifically:
Dosing capsules. Storz & Bickel sell a 40-pack of stainless steel capsules that each hold roughly 0.15–0.25g of ground flower. You pre-load them, cap them, and swap them in and out of the chamber like little pods. For a patient managing multiple daily doses — or different strains for day and night — this is transformative. No grinding, no measuring, no mess. Just drop a capsule in and go. It also keeps the chamber clean, which matters more than most reviews admit.
Temperature precision. You set the temperature in single-degree increments via the LCD display and buttons — not an app, not presets, not a single-button cycle. The range is 40°C to 210°C. If your clinician has told you to vaporise at 185°C, you set 185°C and the device holds it. Different cannabinoids and terpenes vaporise at different temperatures; precise control lets you target them.
Clinic recognition. If you claim vaporiser costs through insurance, an employer health scheme, or the VAT relief available to chronically ill patients, the Mighty+ is the device they will recognise. It carries the same certifications as medical equipment because it was designed and tested to that standard.

The USB-C Supercharge function deserves a mention: with a 15V/3A charger, the device reaches 80% charge in about 40 minutes. Pass-through charging also works — you can use the device whilst it is plugged in, provided you are using a compatible power supply.
What it does well
Vapour quality. This is the reason people pay £300. The vapour is cool, dense, and consistent from the first draw to the last. The cooling unit — a labyrinth of plastic baffles on top of the device — genuinely works. Even at 210°C, the vapour does not feel harsh. Compared to budget conduction devices that produce hot, thin vapour that irritates the throat, the difference is immediately obvious.
Build quality. The Mighty+ is made from PEEK — a medical-grade thermoplastic used in surgical implants. It feels solid in a way most portables do not. The fins on the body are not just aesthetic; they dissipate heat so the device stays comfortable to hold even during extended sessions.
Foolproof operation. You do not need technique. Convection-dominant devices often require a specific draw speed — too fast and the heater cannot keep up, too slow and the herb does not extract. The Mighty+ does not care. Draw however you draw; the hybrid heating compensates. For a patient who does not want to learn "vaporiser technique," this is the killer feature.
The dosing capsule ecosystem. Pre-loading a week's worth of capsules takes 10 minutes on a Sunday and eliminates mess, measuring, and chamber cleaning for the rest of the week. Used capsules go in a jar for later extraction into edibles. This system is so useful that patients who switch to other devices often buy Mighty+ capsules anyway and use them loose.
What it does not do well
It is large. At 14cm tall and 227g, the Mighty+ is not pocketable in any meaningful sense. It fits in a jacket pocket, not a trouser pocket. If you need a device you can carry discreetly everywhere, this is not it — the Crafty+ or Pax Plus are better options for that use case.
The cooling unit needs weekly cleaning. The cooling unit is an assembly of eight small plastic parts that collect condensed vapour residue. After about a week of daily use, the draw resistance increases noticeably and the flavour degrades. Disassembly and an isopropyl alcohol soak restores it, but it is a chore. Dosing capsules help by keeping ground herb out of the chamber, but they cannot stop vapour residue from building up in the cooling unit.
Battery life is adequate, not generous. Ninety minutes of continuous use translates to roughly six to eight sessions. For most patients that is a full day. But if you medicate frequently — or if you forget to charge overnight — you will hit the wall. The pass-through charging mitigates this, but it means being tethered to a cable.
Price. At £275–300, the Mighty+ costs more than some people spend on their phone. It is an investment. The value proposition depends on how much you value vapour quality and consistency — if you are spending £200 a month on flower, a £300 device that properly extracts it is cheaper in the long run than a £100 device that wastes it.
Who it is for
The Mighty+ is for the patient who wants the device their clinic would recommend and does not want to think about hardware again. If you have just been prescribed medical cannabis and you are overwhelmed by the choice — buy this one. It is the safe bet.
It is also the right choice if you claim vaporiser costs through insurance or a health scheme, because it is the device administrators recognise.
It is not for the patient who needs something pocketable, the patient on a tight budget, or the patient who wants a device that requires zero maintenance. Those patients should look at the Crafty+ (same vapour quality, smaller body) or the XMAX V3 Pro (full convection at a fraction of the price).
Verdict
The Mighty+ is not exciting. It does not have a touchscreen, an app, or adjustable airflow. It looks like a power tool. What it has is ten years of clinical and consumer trust — and it earns that trust every time you turn it on.
