Storz & Bickel Crafty+ Review: The Pocket-Sized Medical Vaporiser That Punches Above Its Weight

The Crafty+ is the smallest and most affordable Storz & Bickel portable — same vapour quality as the Mighty+ in a genuinely pocketable body. We review it for UK medical cannabis patients who need portability without compromise.

The Crafty+ is the vaporiser Storz & Bickel made for people who looked at the Mighty+ and said "I love everything about it except the size." It packs the same hybrid convection-conduction heating system, the same vapour quality, and the same dosing capsule compatibility into a body that actually fits in a trouser pocket.

At £200–230, it is also the most affordable entry point into the S&B ecosystem. For a UK medical cannabis patient who needs portability — commuting, work, social situations — the Crafty+ makes the strongest case of any device they sell. Here is the full picture.

What is the Crafty+?

The Crafty+ is the compact portable in Storz & Bickel's lineup. It uses the same patented hybrid heating system as the Mighty+ and VENTY — convection-dominant with supplementary conduction — but in a smaller, lighter body. At 135g, it weighs roughly half as much as the Mighty+.

The "+" upgrade (2021) brought a ceramic-coated filling chamber, improved battery life, and USB-C charging. The original Crafty used a micro-USB port; the Crafty+ finally joined the modern world.

The key trade-off for the smaller size is control. The Crafty+ has one button and three preset temperatures — no LCD display, no on-device degree-by-degree adjustment. Full temperature control requires the S&B Web App via Bluetooth. For a device designed to be used on the go, this is both a deliberate simplification and the thing most reviewers complain about.

Why it matters for medical cannabis patients

Genuine portability. At 11cm tall and 135g, the Crafty+ is the only S&B portable that fits in a standard trouser pocket. The Mighty+ fits in a jacket; the VENTY barely fits in a jacket. The Crafty+ fits in your jeans. For a patient who medicates outside the home — at work, whilst travelling, socially — this is the difference between carrying your device and leaving it at home.

Same vapour quality as the Mighty+. The heating system is identical. The vapour it produces is indistinguishable. You are not trading vapour quality for portability; you are trading battery life and on-device controls. For many patients, that is a trade worth making.

Dosing capsule compatible. The Crafty+ uses the same stainless steel capsules as every other S&B portable. Pre-load a few capsules, drop them in a keyring caddy, and you have measured, discreet doses ready anywhere. No grinding, no mess, no pulling out a bag of flower in public.

Price. At £200–230 — and often available discounted — the Crafty+ is the most affordable way to access S&B vapour quality. If you have been put off by the Mighty+ and VENTY prices, this is the device that bridges the gap.

The single battery is the biggest practical difference from the Mighty+. Five to six sessions per charge means daily charging for most patients, and there is no pass-through capability — you cannot use the Crafty+ whilst it is plugged in. If you forget to charge overnight, you are out of luck the next morning.

The app: necessary or nuisance?

The Crafty+ has three preset temperatures built in: base (180°C), booster (195°C), and superbooster (210°C). You cycle through them by double-clicking the power button.

For full degree-by-degree control, you need the S&B Web App — a browser-based Bluetooth interface that lets you set a custom base temperature, adjust the booster increments, change LED brightness, and check battery status.

The question is whether you actually need it. For most medical patients, the answer is: set it once, then ignore it. Choose your preferred base temperature — 185°C is a common medical default — save it via the app, and from then on the Crafty+ powers on to your chosen temperature every time. You do not need to open the app again unless you want to change it.

The lack of an on-device display feels like a compromise when you are setting it up. In daily use, it disappears — you turn it on, wait a minute, and medicate. The one-button operation is actually more discreet than a screen would be, because the device does not light up and advertise itself.

What it does well

Portability. This is the Crafty+'s reason for existing. It disappears into a pocket. It fits in the palm of your hand. It does not look like a medical device or a drug paraphernalia — to an observer, it resembles a portable charger or a chunky vape mod. For patients who value discretion, this matters.

Vapour quality. Identical to the Mighty+. Dense, cool, consistent. The cooling unit is smaller and the vapour path is shorter, so the vapour is slightly warmer than the Mighty+'s — but the difference is marginal, and it is still substantially cooler than any non-S&B portable.

Simplicity. One button. One LED. No menus, no settings to accidentally change, no screen to break. The Crafty+ has fewer points of failure than any other S&B device because it has fewer components. For a patient who wants a device that just works, the enforced simplicity is a feature, not a limitation.

Dosing capsule ecosystem. Same capsules, same convenience. Pre-load, swap, go. The Crafty+ and a keyring caddy of four capsules is the most discreet full-day medication system available.

What it does not do well

Battery life. Five to six sessions per charge is the weakest in the S&B lineup. If you medicate more than a few times a day, you will need to charge mid-day or carry a power bank. The lack of pass-through charging means a dead Crafty+ is a paperweight until it charges.

No on-device temperature control. You need the app to set a custom temperature, and the app requires Bluetooth. If your phone dies, or you are somewhere you cannot connect, you are limited to the three presets. In practice, this is rarely an issue — set it once and forget it — but it is a limitation the Mighty+ does not have.

Heat-up time. Sixty seconds is fine, but it feels slow compared to the VENTY's 20 seconds. The Crafty+ uses the same heater as the Mighty+, and it shows. You trade speed for size.

Warm vapour. The shorter cooling unit means the vapour is warmer than the Mighty+'s. It is still cooler than any budget device, but if you are sensitive to vapour temperature — or if you medicate at high temperatures regularly — the Mighty+ or VENTY are more comfortable choices.

Crafty+ vs. Mighty+: which should you buy?

Both produce the same vapour. Both use the same capsules. The differences are:

  • Size: Crafty+ is half the weight and genuinely pocketable. Mighty+ is not.
  • Battery: Mighty+ gets 90 minutes (6–8 sessions). Crafty+ gets about half that.
  • Controls: Mighty+ has an LCD and on-device temperature adjustment. Crafty+ uses an app.
  • Price: Crafty+ is £70–100 cheaper.

Buy the Crafty+ if portability is your priority and you can manage daily charging. Buy the Mighty+ if you mostly medicate at home, value on-device controls, or need longer battery life.

Who it is for

The Crafty+ is for the patient who wants Storz & Bickel vapour quality in a device they can actually carry. If you commute, work in an office, visit friends, or simply do not want a large device sitting on your coffee table — the Crafty+ is the S&B portable that fits your life.

It is the right entry point if you want S&B quality but have been put off by the Mighty+ and VENTY prices — the vapour is the same, and the compromises (battery, app control) are manageable for most patients.

It is not for the heavy user who medicates eight or more times a day, or the patient who wants the best possible cooling and does not care about size. Those patients should look at the Mighty+ or VENTY.

Verdict

The Crafty+ is the most practical vaporiser Storz & Bickel make. It does not have the fastest heat-up, the longest battery, or the coolest vapour — but it has the vapour quality that made S&B the clinic standard, in a body you will actually take with you.

For £200, that is a bargain.
